July saw some awesome sporting achievements by ORC members, not only in running, but in cycling and Triathlon events too! Is there no end you the raw power of ORC!
Two teams of 8 and a solo runner took on the 24 hour challenge of Thunder Run 2017, the weather was truly abysmal, turning what was, or should have been, a beautiful scenic route, into a muddy quagmire. Aside, a great weekend was had and a special shout out to solo runner Simon Locker for completing 9 laps .
In cycling, new member James Taylor took on ride London, riding his socks off to complete 100 miles in under 6 hours! Magnificent.
In Triathlon, our very own Mat Davies became an Outlaw, completing a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile swim, making it look like a breeze coming in at just over 12 hours. Mat, your fellow ORCs salute you.
In running news, Sam Chapman took on her first half marathon, Alex Lloyd her first marathon, whilst others smashed park runs as well as other PB’s and new events, not forgetting those who took on a very hilly Abbots Trail run. A huge well done to everyone on achieving your goals, you rock! Whilst some smashed their goals, others signed up to achieve their firsts….watch this space to see how they got in in their upcoming events.
Training has been getting underway for the next round of marathons, with a number of the club signing up for Birmingham Marathon in October, as well as a few of the ladies, getting involved in a ladies only 10k event donning neon! Again, watch this space!
ORC also took part in the Overseal Gala, showing off our new flag and running with collection buckets to help raise a record breaking amount for the Overseal Gala Committee. Well done and a huge thanks to everyone who took part in the day.
Some fantastic miles were put in over the course of July, thank you for being part of it.
